Fatal E-Bike Collision Near El Centro Claims life of 14-Year-Old Boy
Imperial County, CA — On Friday, August 22, 2025, at approximately 7:40 p.m., a 14-year-old male riding an electric motorcycle (e-bike) was traveling westbound on Aten Road near Silsbee Road when he collided with a white Toyota Tacoma driven eastbound by a 17-year-old male.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision caused the e-bike rider to be ejected. The driver of the Toyota immediately stopped, called 911, and waited for officers to arrive. Emergency personnel transported the injured rider to El Centro Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Imperial County Coroner’s Office responded to the hospital, took custody of the deceased, and will release his name pending identification and family notification (Coroner Case #25-133).
Investigators say impairment does not appear to have been a factor. The Toyota driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. The e-bike rider was wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
According to Spotfund, a fundraiser titled “BradenForeverRidin” has been launched in memory of an individual identified as Braden
The fundraiser states: “Many are asking how they support the Coyne’s at this time… We would like to make a memorial in honor of Braden’s memory and make shirts & hats for the community. Any remaining funds will be donated to a nonprofit for raising rider awareness, and safety. Thank you for respecting the family’s privacy at this difficult time.”
CHP issued a reminder to the motoring public: traffic conditions can change within seconds, making it essential for all drivers to remain vigilant.
