Fatal Crash on North Imperial Avenue Leaves One Dead, Another Seriously Injured

EL CENTRO, Calif. A 20-year-old man from Imperial was killed and another man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision early Wednesday morning, September 23, in the 3000 block of North Imperial Avenue.

According to the El Centro Police Department, officers responded to a reported traffic collision at approximately 1:30 a.m. with initially unknown injuries.

Upon arrival, officers found an adult male on the dirt shoulder along the southbound lanes of Imperial Avenue with severe injuries. A second adult male was located inside a nearby canal drain, also suffering from serious injuries.

Medical personnel responded and provided emergency treatment. The 20-year-old man, a resident of Imperial, died at the scene. The second man was airlifted to a medical facility for further treatment.

The preliminary investigation determined that a black Dodge and a white Toyota were traveling northbound on Imperial Avenue when the vehicles collided. Following the collision, the Dodge overturned, ejecting its occupants. The occupants of the Toyota were not injured.

An El Centro Police Department traffic collision investigator responded to the scene. The cause and circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
