Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash on State Route 111 Near Heber Leaves Three Dead
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. — Three people were killed in a three-vehicle crash Monday evening on State Route 111, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred on February 2, 2026, at approximately 5:12 p.m., north of McCabe Road, in an area described as having moderate traffic. CHP officials said a 2007 Lincoln MKZ was traveling northbound on State Route 111 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered to the left, crossed the dirt center median, and entered the southbound lanes.
The Lincoln then collided with a 2020 Nissan Rogue traveling southbound. Following that impact, a 2021 Honda Accord, also traveling southbound, collided with the Lincoln, CHP said.
The driver of the Lincoln, identified as a 50-year-old man from El Centro, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, a 57-year-old woman from El Centro, and the vehicle’s right front passenger, a 51-year-old woman from Calexico, were also pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of their injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Honda Accord sustained minor injuries, according to CHP.
The Imperial County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene, where they took custody of the deceased. Authorities said it appears all parties involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. At this stage of the investigation, it is unknown whether impairment was a factor.
The crash remains under investigation.
CHP reminded motorists that traffic conditions can change in a split second and urged drivers to remain vigilant while operating a motor vehicle.
