Imperial County Secures Nearly $300,000 FAA Grant to Modernize and Enhance Airport
El Centro, CA — Imperial County has been awarded $294,000 in federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to modernize and enhance the Imperial County Airport, marking a major step in strengthening local infrastructure and expanding transportation options for residents and businesses.
The funding follows a recent advocacy trip to Washington, D.C., where county leaders met with U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, Congressman Adam Schiff, and FAA officials to underscore the airport’s importance as a regional hub. Officials highlighted its role in supporting economic growth, tourism, emergency response operations, and regional connectivity.
District 3 Supervisor Peggy Price, who participated in the meetings, called the grant a direct result of the county’s proactive engagement at the federal level.
“Meeting face-to-face with Senator Padilla, Congressman Schiff, and the FAA allowed us to showcase the vital role our airport plays in connecting the Imperial Valley,” Price said. “This funding reflects their recognition of our community’s needs and is a major win for Imperial County residents. Modernizing our airport ensures we remain accessible, competitive, and ready for future opportunities.”
The grant will fund key infrastructure upgrades and modernization projects aimed at improving safety, passenger experience, and long-term sustainability. County officials said additional details on project timelines and specific improvements will be announced as plans move forward.
This latest investment builds on Imperial County’s continued commitment to strengthening transportation systems and promoting economic resilience across the region.
