Suspect in Domestic Violence Case Taken Into Custody Following Barricade Incident

CALEXICO — Earlier this month, on the night of April 5, Calexico Police officers responded to a reported domestic dispute in the 100 block of East Eighth Street.

Upon arrival, officers contacted a distraught female victim who identified the suspect as 46-year-old Jason Viramontes. Authorities said Viramontes is a convicted felon with a documented history of violence and was out on bail at the time for alleged narcotics transportation and firearm possession charges.

When officers attempted to contact Viramontes, he allegedly refused to exit the residence and barricaded himself inside. A perimeter was quickly established, and the Calexico Police Department requested assistance from the U.S. Border Patrol’s BORTAC tactical unit and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) crisis negotiators.

After approximately four hours of negotiations, Viramontes was taken into custody without further incident. He now faces multiple felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, and criminal threats. Viramontes was booked into the Imperial County Jail.
