Iran Responds to U.S. Strike on Nuclear Sites, Warning of ‘Everlasting Consequences’

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is accusing the United States of breaking international law after it launched airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities early Saturday morning. The strikes, which targeted 3 major Iranian nuclear sites, were described by Araghchi as a “grave violation” of the UN Charter, international law, and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

“The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear installations,” Araghchi said in an X post Saturday.

He called the U.S. actions “outrageous” and warned they would have “everlasting consequences.”

“Each and every member of the UN must be alarmed over this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior,” he added.

Araghchi said Iran considers the attack an act of aggression and reserves the right to defend itself under the UN Charter.

“In accordance with the UN Charter and its provisions allowing a legitimate response in self-defense, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest, and people.”

The U.S. has not yet issued a response to the statement. However, American officials have previously said the strikes were a preemptive measure based on intelligence about possible threats.

Iran claims that its nuclear program is “peaceful” and has requested that the United Nations and other countries to condemn the U.S. action. The situation has raised concerns over further escalation in the region.
