Raised in El Centro, Beltran credits a lot of his artistic foundation to his adolescence — from skateboarding and punk rock concerts to designing logos and flyers for fledgling bands. His career began with album artwork for hip-hop artists like Action Bronson and DJ Premier and has expanded to include national brand campaigns.

Career Experience and Local Impact

Now based in San Diego, Beltran also leads creative customer relationship marketing at Tubi previously he was Rivian’s senior brand designer. While he’s had the opportunity to work with high-end companies, he keeps it local with nearby customers, naming ongoing work with Imperial Valley brands as a very fulfilling component of his business.

“Good design is problem-solving and empathy,” Beltran said. “It’s listening, understanding the needs of the client, and trying to find a means to communicate their story in a manner that speaks to them.

Beltran runs the studio on his own and brings a lot of experience to the table. His client list includes major names like Disney, Fox Entertainment, Rivian, Lyft, Luke Combs, and many more. The majority of them, he said, were secured due to referrals and word of mouth — a reflection of the strength of his relationships and the trust he’s built up over the years.

Major Breakthroughs and Awards

One of the biggest successes of Beltran came during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he was requested by the State of California to design a poster for its artist series campaign. The piece resonated so much that it was utilized as the centerpiece for the state’s public relations campaign

“A one-man shop that something was started that I’m very proud of,” Mark Beltran stated. “In 2024, we beat big agencies to win four national awards — a testament to heart and hustle.”

Since launching in 2023, Studio Down South has quickly made a name for itself in the design world, winning several awards for its thoughtful and passionate approach to branding. In 2024, the studio won four national awards, competing against some of the country’s top design studios. Awards such as one gold, one silver, and two bronze awards all under the umbrella of Studio Down South’s brand identity and creative direction excellence.
