Walmart and Sam’s Club to Add Tap-to-Pay at Checkout starting Aug. 24

Walmart and Sam’s Club customers and members will soon have another way to pay at checkout as the retailers prepare to introduce Tap to Pay at select locations.

Beginning Aug. 24, Walmart will begin adding Tap to Pay to its payment options at select Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations. The company plans to expand the feature to all U.S. Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations by the end of 2026, with plans to add Tap to Pay at fuel stations by mid-2027.

The new payment option will allow customers and members to use eligible contactless credit or debit cards, phones and smartwatches to complete purchases at checkout.

Customers and members will also be able to add eligible Walmart, Sam’s Club and OnePay cards to their digital wallets, providing another way to use those cards for contactless payments.

Tap to Pay will be offered alongside existing payment options, including cash, traditional credit cards and Walmart Pay. Through the Walmart app, Walmart Pay allows customers to make purchases, view receipts and access Walmart+ features.

Walmart said the addition of Tap to Pay is part of its broader effort to give customers and members more choices while making everyday shopping more convenient.

The company also highlighted its financial services, which are designed to help customers and members manage everyday financial needs, including options to save, build credit and pay over time. Sam’s Club members also have access to programs such as Sam’s Cash and Sam’s Club credit.

With the rollout, customers and members will have another contactless payment option as Walmart and Sam’s Club continue expanding their payment and financial services.
