Border Crossings to Pause for 9/11 Remembrance Across San Diego and Calexico
U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) San Diego Field Office announced it will pause northbound traffic at several land ports of entry on Thursday, September 11, 2025, to observe a moment of silence marking the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The temporary halt will take place at 5:46 a.m. Pacific Time (8:46 a.m. Eastern Time) — the same moment that American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
The observance will include the following ports of entry:
San Ysidro
Otay Mesa
Tecate
Calexico West
The brief pause is intended to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day. According to CBP, normal operations will resume immediately after the observance.
Travelers using the crossings are encouraged to plan ahead for the short delay. CBP officials advise the public to monitor Border Wait Times online or through the CBP Border Wait Times app, which provides hourly updates and helps travelers select the best port of entry.
For those who travel frequently, CBP also highlighted the benefits of enrolling in a Trusted Traveler Program, which allows expedited processing at border crossings and airports.
