Brawley Police Locate and Disarm Explosive Device During Domestic Violence Investigation

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Police Department responded to a domestic violence report Thursday morning that led to the discovery of a suspected explosive device, which was later safely disarmed by authorities.

According to a press release from the department, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on October 16, 2025, dispatchers received a Text-to-911 message from an anonymous individual reporting a possible domestic violence incident involving a firearm at the Spring Encino apartment complex located at 402 S. Eastern Avenue.

The scene was not declared clear until approximately 2:30 p.m., at which time evacuated residents were advised it was safe to return to their homes.

Officers arrived at the scene and contacted a man and woman inside the residence. After conducting an initial investigation, police arrested the male subject in connection with the reported incident.

During a subsequent search of the residence, a Brawley Police Department K9 trained in detecting firearms and currency alerted officers to the restroom area, where they discovered what appeared to be an explosive device. As a precaution, police evacuated nearby residents to ensure public safety.

The Brawley Fire Department and the Imperial County Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team responded to assist. The EOD team safely disarmed the device and declared the area secure. Once cleared, residents were allowed to return home, and nearby roads were reopened.

The incident remains under investigation.
