Imperial County and Calexico Fire Departments Conduct Joint Hazmat and Bomb Squad Training
CALEXICO, Calif. — May 2, 2025 — Fire personally kills from the Imperial County Fire Department and the Calexico Fire Department participated in a joint hazardous materials (Hazmat) and bomb squad training session, coordinated by Imperial County Fire Battalion Chief O. Robles. The event was held at Calexico Fire Station 3 and included support from members of the Hazardous Emergency Assistance Team (HEAT).
The training covered critical response areas including hazardous materials procedures, decontamination processes, the use of the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG), and protocols for activating and managing Hazmat incidents.
Participants also received a detailed overview of operations conducted by the Imperial County Bomb Squad. This portion of the training included hands-on experience with specialized equipment such as the bomb robot, with discussions on how tools are selected based on the nature of an incident.
The training was designed to strengthen interagency coordination and ensure effective joint responses to complex emergencies across the region. Both departments acknowledged the importance of continued collaboration and expressed appreciation for those involved in organizing the training.
