Juvenile Taken Into Custody After Reported Threats Against Central Union High School

EL CENTRO, Calif. - The El Centro Police Department is investigating reported school-related threats involving Central Union High School after authorities received information about the incident Friday, Sept. 4.

According to the El Centro Police Department, information regarding the reported threats was provided by the San Diego and Imperial County Joint Terrorism Task Force. Police personnel immediately began working with school officials and law enforcement partners to assess the circumstances and address the safety of students, staff and the surrounding community.

The department said its School Resource Officer, detectives and agents from the FBI’s Imperial County Field Office worked with school officials to identify the student believed to be responsible for the reported threats.

During the investigation, a juvenile was taken into custody in connection with the reported threats, according to police.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Because the individual involved is a juvenile, and to protect the integrity of the investigation, police said no additional identifying information will be released at this time.

Investigators said that, based on the information gathered, they believe the incident was isolated and that there is currently no indication of an additional or ongoing threat to Central Union High School or the community.

The El Centro Police Department thanked school administrators and staff, the San Diego and Imperial County Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the FBI’s Imperial County Field Office for their assistance during the investigation.

Police also thanked members of the community who promptly reported their concerns to the appropriate officials.
