Missing Man Found Dead in Vehicle Submerged in Brawley Canal

IMPERIAL COUNTY — A man reported missing last week has been found dead, according to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies confirmed that 61-year-old Ruben Garcia was discovered deceased inside his vehicle, which was located Tuesday morning in the Rockwood Canal near Mead Road and Dogwood Road.

Garcia was last seen on Friday after reportedly attending the Chavela Fest — an event where individuals and businesses compete to create the best version of a chavela, an adult beverage typically made with beer, tomato juice, and spices.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, and investigators have not confirmed whether alcohol or intoxication played a role.

The incident remains under investigation.

760 News extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Ruben Garcia during this difficult time.
