Peggy Price Appointed Temporary Vice Chair After Escobar Steps Down Amid Lawsuit
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. — Peggy Price has been appointed as the temporary vice chair of the Imperial County Board of Supervisors following Supervisor Jesús Escobar’s decision to step down from the position amid a pending lawsuit.
Supervisor Martha Cardenas-Singh nominated Price for the temporary role during a recent board meeting. Price, who currently serves as the District 5 Supervisor, said she intends to focus on supporting the board’s leadership during this interim period.
“Right now, it is temporary, so in terms of the long-term goals, it’s here to support the chairman and his goals that he has set,” Price said in an interview with KYMA. “But should this continue on into the next year and if I were to come into position being vice chairman, then I would have to think about what my goals and priorities are.”
Escobar stepped down as vice chair due to an ongoing lawsuit filed earlier this year by a former clerk of the board. The former employee accused Escobar of workplace misconduct, sexual harassment, and wrongful termination.
At this time, it remains unclear when the lawsuit will be resolved.
