BREAKING: Dr. Kathleen Lang Appointed as Imperial County Executive Officer
El Centro, Calif. — Recently the Imperial County Board of Supervisors has officially appointed Dr. Kathleen Lang as the new County Executive Officer (CEO) for Imperial County. The decision was made during the board’s meeting on Tuesday, June 10, and marks a shift in Imperial County administration. Lang is set to officially assume the role on June 27, 2025.
Dr. Lang brings more than 25 years of experience across local government and the health care sector, with a career focused on expanding access to public health programs, improving operational systems, and fostering interagency collaboration. Most recently, she served as a representative for HealthNet, where she partnered with the Imperial County Local Health Authority Commission on a range of initiatives aimed at Medi-Cal recipients, including California Accountable Communities for Health, Whole Person Care, and CalAIM.
Her local experience also includes serving as Deputy Director of Health and Support Services at the Imperial County Public Health Department. In that capacity, she oversaw budgeting, human resources, clinical services, and facilities maintenance. She played a key leadership role during major public emergencies, including the 2008 financial crisis, the H1N1 pandemic, and the 2010 earthquake recovery efforts—during which the county successfully secured full reimbursement from FEMA and CalOES for eligible disaster-related costs.
Lang’s career in Imperial County began in 2000 in entry-level roles within the County Executive Office and Behavioral Health Services. Over the past two decades, she has steadily advanced through the ranks, building a reputation for integrity, cross-sector coordination, and results-driven management.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Kathleen Lang into this important role,” said Board Chairman John Hawk. “She brings not only exceptional administrative and leadership experience, but a deep understanding of our region, its people, and its potential. The Board has full confidence in her ability to move the County forward with professionalism, transparency, and a spirit of collaboration.”
In a statement, Lang said she is committed to leading the county “with integrity, transparency, and heartfelt dedication” to the residents of Imperial County.
“This community is at the heart of my work, and every decision I’ve made in my 25-year career here has been driven by the values of trust, collaboration, and ethical governance,” Lang said. “Together, as a community of stakeholders sharing a common vision, we will strengthen public trust, enhance operational efficiency, and create a more resilient and collaborative public sector.”
As County Executive Officer, Lang will be responsible for managing day-to-day county operations, coordinating with all departments, and ensuring the effective implementation of policies set by the Board of Supervisors.
