Desert Soccer Association Hosts First Youth Tournament, Drawing Over 1,000 Attendees and Strong Community Support
EL CENTRO — Laughter, cheers, and the thud of soccer balls filled the air over the weekend as the Desert Soccer Association hosted its inaugural youth soccer tournament, marking a major step forward for youth sports in the Imperial Valley. More than 1,000 spectators came out over the course of the two-day event, packing the sidelines with folding chairs, team banners, and spirited supporters.
Teams from across the region faced off in a series of matches that combined competitive play with a strong sense of community. On the fields, young athletes sprinted, passed, and defended with determination, while coaches shouted encouragement from the sidelines. Proud parents and families lined the fields, capturing every moment on their phones and celebrating each goal, save, and team effort.
The tournament’s success was made possible through strong community partnerships, notably with the El Centro Police Activities League (PAL). PAL Director Edward Preciado and PAL soccer coordinator Rafa Peraza played key roles in assisting the Desert Soccer Association with event planning, logistics, and outreach.
“This tournament represents more than just games—it’s about community, opportunity, and investing in our youth,” a Desert Soccer Association official said.
Organizers said they were encouraged by the turnout and the positive response from participants and families. Plans are already underway for future events, with the Desert Soccer Association aiming to make the tournament an annual fixture that will continue to grow each year.
For many of the young players, this tournament was not just a competition, but the beginning of lifelong memories and friendships built around the love of the game. With such a promising start, the Desert Soccer Association appears poised to become a cornerstone of youth sports development in the Imperial Valley.
