Toys“R”Us Set to Return to Imperial Valley, Opening at Gran Plaza Outlets in October
CALEXICO, Calif. - Toys“R”Us is set to return to the Imperial Valley, with a new location scheduled to open at Gran Plaza Outlets in Calexico in October 2026.
Gran Plaza Outlets announced the upcoming opening in a social media post, stating that Toys“R”Us will open at the shopping center in October. The announcement has generated significant attention online, with the post receiving more than 1,000 reactions and dozens of comments and shares.
The opening will bring back the well-known toy retailer to the local area as the company continues expanding its physical store presence across the United States. Toys“R”Us currently operates locations through Go! Retail Group, which has been expanding the brand’s brick-and-mortar footprint.
A Different Kind of Toys“R”Us
The company says its current vision extends beyond traditional toy retail, describing its stores as immersive experiences designed around play and learning.
The job description lists several “Pillars of Play,” including S.T.E.A.M., building, creative arts, language, mathematics, music, physical movement, pretend play, problem solving, robotics and coding, sensory play and social and emotional development.
Toys“R”Us also says store managers are expected to create an environment that is “fun” for customers and employees while encouraging product knowledge, customer engagement and sales.
The company is continuing to expand its U.S. store footprint. Go! Retail Group’s Toys“R”Us website currently lists more than 30 locations nationwide, including flagship stores and other locations in malls and shopping centers.
For Imperial Valley shoppers, the planned Calexico location will provide another option for purchasing toys, games and other children’s products without having to travel outside the region.
